In observance of 9/11, individuals at the Charles Lea Center honored the memory of those we lost and the heroes who emerged from one of our nation’s darkest days by creating heartfelt cards of gratitude for local firefighters.
We were honored to welcome firefighters from the Drayton Fire Department and Converse Fire Department, who joined us as our individuals personally presented their handmade cards. The experience was both meaningful and moving, reminding us of the courage, sacrifice, and compassion shown on September 11, 2001, and of the selfless service first responders continue to provide every day.
As we remember the lives forever changed by 9/11, we also pause to express our deepest gratitude to the men and women who run toward danger to protect and serve others. Your bravery, dedication, and willingness to answer the call inspire us all.

Our Tennessee team recently joined leaders, advocates, educators and professionals from across the state to learn, connect and share ideas that create greater inclusion, independence and opportunity for people with disabilities.
Representing CLC were Sandra Mooney, TN Director of Innovation Coordination Services, Katina Cole, West TN Regional Manager, and Natalie Craig, Middle TN Regional Manager.
One of the highlights of the conference was reconnecting with Marie, one of our recent MAPs graduates. In addition to graduating from MAPs, she recently completed a program at Vanderbilt! 🎓 Through MAPs, Marie has used enabling technology supports that help her live independently and stay connected with her family. What a wonderful example of what’s possible when people have the right tools and support, and we’re grateful to have played a part in her journey. 💚
We also enjoyed connecting with our DDA Transition Guide for Middle Tennessee and so many others working to strengthen opportunities for people with disabilities across the state.

My Forever Home and the Charles Lea Center recently celebrated a groundbreaking in Smithfield, NC for 10 new homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Built by Harbinger Homes, funded through Scioto Properties, and made possible by land generously donated by Floyd Development, this project will provide income-based housing and a supportive community for residents.
More than housing, this neighborhood will foster connection through shared meals, activities, and celebrations that bring neighbors together.
